We needed someone to sing backing vocals on a couple of tracks. Kristy [Thirsk]
was on Nettwerk too, we sent her almost finished
songs, and received back a pop/dance music with excellent lyrics
and melody. It worked. We have continued that practice ever since,
and never were unsatisfied with what girls did.
“Karma” came after.
By my opinion the best pop album ever made…
Thank you… Yes, “Karma” is indeed an amazing album.
Do you know that even now, after so many years, we’re selling
around 400 pieces every week? That album brought us here: sold out
shows, charts, videos…
And the fact that nobody in the
crowd knows you, although you’ve sold ten, fifteen times more albums than with FLA? <smile>
Yes, isn’t that bizarre?! <laugh> But I really enjoy
this situation. You saw for yourself, no one’s bothering me,
I’m walking freely among the people with beer in my hand, no
autographs, no photos… incredible!
Comparing to “Karma”, next releases “Poem” and
now “Chimera” are even more pop oriented. Is Delerium
moving away of being band that makes ‘electronic’ music?
I really don’t have an answer to that question. But one thing
is certain: I would love to make another album as good as “Karma” but
I don’t think that’s possible… <smile>
Interview ended, it was time for the show. Bill Leeb left, merging
with the crowd waiting in the dark for Delerium to appear. No one recognised
6'3'' tall icon of electronic
music as
he
went back stage.
