TWISTED THOUGHT HEX ANGEL
Twisted thought generator no more?
I had many questions for Bryan Erickson, mercurial mastermind
of Velvet Acid Christ. Managed to ask a couple, brainstormed
in a single breath. Timing was perfect: his new album ready, new attitude active,
new life ahead.
More answers to come - on “Hex Angel” in September…
No more disease producing VAC?
< laugh> No, I dropped the name. It was a spoof from a side project of toxic
coma called Disco Disease Factory, making fun of C&C
Music Factory… I just laughed every time someone called me df, or
disease. Reminded me of the good old funny drug days, now long gone…
What is your current stand on drugs?
I did a lot of soul searching with drugs, I had fun. But, I am
choosing a very healthy lifestyle now; getting older takes its
toll. I am now a raw vegan – don’t
eat anything processed or cooked. Drugs are not compatable with what I am trying
to accomplish with myself at this time: getting into great shape, doing many
things I wanted to do but neglected in my fun years…
I am a little more serious about life, and the company I keep.
Opposite of previous
period of VAC. Why did “Twisted
Thought Generator” sound so 'unfocused'?
Because I was on drugs, having nervous breakdowns, been under
a lot of pressure, and the tours made me rush the product running
out of time. So I had released “TTG” more
or less as an EP with a bonus mp3 cd of old material. As an EP, “TTG” IS
A KILLER - as a LP it’s not my best work. I look at it differently,
I guess…
You are changing…Does your ‘name’ change
symbolize anything?
hexfix93 is my producer name. It symbolizes
fixing curses with will. Works well as a producers name, I think.
VAC has re-signed with Dependent. Reasons?
Thorsten ( promo manager@ Dependent,
also VAC- live crew ninja) got hired, and he got Stefan (head
of Dependent and previously OFF Beat) and me talking again.
Our first distro for “Twisted Thought Generator” in
Europe was done poorly; we didnt want to make the same mistake
twice, since “HexAngel” I think rivals “Calling
Ov The Dead” in every aspect.
Yes, it has been described
as 'return to the roots of VAC', to the style of “Calling Ov The Dead”.
Was that your best album so far?
I dont have a best record, I have best songs. I consider myself
a good act, why? Because I can take 15 songs from the VAC library
and make a greatest hits
CD that would kick total ass, not many in the scene these days can say that.
I pride myself on my consistancy and the ability to write good records, not
just good songs. Am I as good as my idols? Not to me. Comparing VAC to alot
of others that are in the scene now, I can honestly say it is standing at the
top of the heap with few others… Arrogant? No, its just that the scene
has gotten this bad… I dont think I'm all that great, and VAC is no Puppy.
