Is it true that a meeting was held in
an unnamed record company to decide which album will be pushed,
"Cuckoo" or 'other' band's, and upon decision, that 'other'
band became huge?
I have heard this before, I think it goes on
all the time with artists/bands - somebody gets the green light
with the whole label behind you and the other doesn’t; it’s
as simple as that. Choices are made.
Although your music is constantly used
in commercials and trailers, and many musicians and journalists
put you among major scene influences, your albums are self-released.
What is the reason for non-cooperation between Curve and record
industry?
I think we’ve had a fare run of labels,
all with good intentions, but when you get knocked back time after
time the disillusion runs deep for all. There are only so many times
you can do a major release deal, everything has to be working with
you, press/age/right track/right time, the luck factor is huge.
If none of these things go your way then you are just as quickly
thrown out the door while the next new thing pass’s you by
on their way in. Very fast turnover all of which is dispensable.
We have had many factors against us in recent years so we wanted
to release something on our own out of arms reach of manic touring
schedules and the like. It’s better for us at this stage to
work when and how we want to.
So, your insisting on making 'music
of flying saucers' had nothing to do with it? <smile>
It’s the only music I care to make. I don’t
know why we’re not accepted and to be really honest, I couldn’t
give a fuck.
It is evident that some bands have sold
their soul to be better than Curve, but only managed to
be more popular. When will you become famous?
I’m not interested in fame. I just want
to make people smile.
At that point I was out of questions to ask. Maybe a couple
to Toni, but it didn't work out. For many things not mentioned here
be sure to check their site. Community of Curve addicts
lives on, as well as masterful music of Dean Garcia and unmatched
sensual voice of Toni Halliday.
