You could say it is oriented around percussions, and on top of that come layers of guitars.
I have a couple songs with electronic instruments on them and there are definitely songs that Delerium fans will like. And there are also tracks that Tori Amos’ fans will like. Album is a cross between those two ‘sounds’. Also, lots of organic instruments were used. I wanted my debut album to be timeless, like that it cannot be dated; you’ve noticed that with electronic stuff, you can pretty much put them in time they were produced. I tried to avoid that.
There is also a plan to do a side-project with Shelley [Harland, the other singer on Delerium tour]; because we’re getting along so well, there’s a lot of good chemistry between us. I get really inspired when working with other people. I can write my songs and lyrics all right, but I truly enjoy other’s people influence which opens me up to things that I wouldn’t be doing on my own. I’d really love to expand musically as much as possible. My fiancée is recording an electronic album as well, I’m helping on some tracks there too.

Any information about the release of ‘Souvenir’?

Currently it is out on limited edition as an independent release. I may not officially publish it yet, until I meet with representatives from a certain big record company after the show in NYC. We’ll see how it’ll go, if I will sign a deal or not. If I do, hope they’ll stand behind me; if not, I’m on my own. But at this point it is looking good, we’ll see…

So, what is going to happen in near future for Kristy Thirsk, are you going to go your way from now on, or Delerium or…?

I’ve been having so much fun on this tour, singing with Shelley and all the women, it’s so amazing that I would really love to continue take this tour to Europe. If my record is not going to officially come out this year, then I’d love to spend the rest of the year with Delerium. It’s been so good….
As I said, Shelley and I are planning an electronic project and I just have got so many ideas in my head that I think I’ll never run out of inspiration and just sit and wait…I’ve got my Dictaphone and my guitar and that’s enough for me.

How about when you work with Delerium, is writing process different?

Yes, they send musical part almost completely finished. Now that they work with vocalists, they leave these open spaces for chorus, so it’s really easy and fun – the map is there and you just have to make your mark on it.

It hasn’t always been like that. You are their first vocalist since the days when Leeb and Fulber were creating colder, ambiental music. Now it is simply pop music. How do you see this time-span, being the most competent to give your view of it?

You know, we have to change… doing the old stuff over and over again is... donno… When an artist that I love does something completely different, I’m happy. Also, I like change; you change your style, your clothes, you’re influenced what society dictates… why not change your writing style? Is it going to be influenced by different things? Of course. But that it is good…(continues)
