THE GEMINI PROPHECIES REVEALED!
We are presenting a band that already made
an impact on the electro+ scene even without a full length album
released.
Quality or smart strategy? Both. “Having a chance to develop
over some time has really worked to our benefit. It gave us the
opportunity to grow and in a way find our place in the scene. We're
not an exact fit into any particular genre and so we needed to
be introduced and shown around the block, so to speak” says Dominique,
frontwoman and lyrics designer.
An intriguing look in the eyes
of this NYC ‘Shadow
Diva’ carries a message. As sharp and misty as her voice that
seamlessly moves through pounding beats.
That
is Neikka RPM: duality, a blend, an alloy. Combination?
Yes - and a pretty unique one.
Even their opus has been a balance. Balance between compilation appearances
with both their original tracks and remixes of other artists, in addition to
some well-known artists remixing their songs. Not a usual path in the past
two years. They say it helped them being pushed out into the light and got
recognized, since many of the tracks were, and still are favourites of many
DJs.
It is time for an album to be finally out, and Neikka RPM is
ready: due this fall on Alfa Matrix, “The Gemini Prophecies” will
be revealed. Title is not accidental. Duality, as in ‘Neikka’-
feminine, exotic, attractive; ‘RPM’ – symbol of
machine, strength, power and motion.Their style is not unknown. Vocals are
whispers, strongly echoed. What do they conceal, 'poisonous' lyrics?
”My lyrics, or I guess it's better to say my "phrases" are
all unconscious flow, the tape is rolling, room is in almost total darkness,
just
the flicker of equipment lights. I close my eyes and the music is pure emotion,
sensual and chaos all around me. Whatever immediately comes to mind becomes a
song. It is a raw and curiously sexy way to record, it sounds true, it's my impulsive
feelings and so there is no other way.
I never try to interpret the words. The end result is that voices blend into
overall "soundscape", so they keep the songs closer to a more surreal
state. I like to think that my vocal parts are best described as "transparent" -
like a faceless little voice calling you from the shadows: 'Maybe I'll lure you
in!'"
And music is 'techno' with 'industrial' edge, mixed with
'industrial' that has 'techno' blade...
”We're actually a lo-fi
band masquerading as an electronica act! Honestly, that is how
I hear
our music, it still has a raw spontaneous edge, despite the mountains
of technology!
I'll always remember tossing
amps up on to a stage, un-miked drums, nothing mixed, just
right out of the box music, loud and crashing. And so there
are many influences infiltrating through our music, pulling
us in different directions and in the end, we find ourselves
riding the sound-waves in between genres".
