S – Yeah, well, Metropolis wanted us to find a record label that they could work with, and so they weren’t setting us up with Dependent, but to be honest, if we had a choice about who we would have liked to be signed to.. Well, Dependent would be right up there! We sent out our demos and we actually phoned Stefan. We introduced ourselves and said we are Pride and Fall, Metropolis wants to sign us and we were wondering how you would feel about that? Stefan said, ‘ Well actually we work well with Metropolis…’
SV – Yes, yes! But the thing was that he wanted to sign us as well!
S – YES!
P – Stefan is also our manager now so.. He was offering a more complete package, it made sense to sign to Dependent. Importantly while all this was going on with Stefan and Metropolis we were having gigs in Norway, and built up a reputation. Then we got a call from a club in Denmark who had heard about us..There was a synth festival also in Norway. We were getting a reputation as a good new EBM band from Norway.
[Per comes into the conversation. Per is intelligent, thoughtful, deep. He is reflective and obviously the creative force behind Pride and Fall. He is a gentle, and personable man. A genuine ‘nice-guy’, I wouldn’t think there was an ounce of unpleasantness in his body]
S – We won this contest.. [cue laughter from the other band members]

JWhat contest?

S – We were region champions in a Norwegian Synth contest! [more laughter] Yeah! You know, you have champions in Rock..We were you know.. champions in Synth!
SV – It is a very well known competition in the little norwegian synth scene, but anyway..
[there seems now to be a little emabarassment about bringing it up, and also much kid-like laughter and giggles..]J – So it was like a battle of the bands? Anyone we know you were up against?
SV – Maybe you've heard about Superjupiter and Cue to Recall, there was also some other acts involved which I can't remember the name of right now..

J – Ok.. So I know none of them! [laughter peals through the room]

S – Ok yes, I guess they are just known in Norway.. [the room erupts again, as Sigve and the boys exchange mock embarassed looks]

J – Ok so there is a little of your history, can you just introduce the band for those who don’t know Pride and Fall?

P – I’m Per Waagen, I play synth, and produce much of the music with Sigve.. This is Sigve, he is our vocalist and lyricist. Svein is our live guitarist.
SV – I wasn’t so much involved in the album, but I have just moved back now, and I’m taking more part in the new material.

J – So this is your third gig outside of Norway, so what’s the live experience like outside of Norway?

SV – This is something completely different from the gigs we did in Norway. In Norway we were doing gigs in small clubs, with no light engineer or sound guy.. So it has been really different to be playing in bigger places across Europe and the audience has been so friendly! They have felt like friends!
S – The audiences are getting bigger and bigger and bigger, and we have been so welcomed wherever we have gone so we are really pleased with how it is going.
SV – Ghent was awesome!
