– Was that the Invitation festival right? [Three day festival
in Belgium, with a lot of major bands playing!] How many came there?
S –
Yeah, in Belgium. They said 1200 turned up..
SV – It was a GREAT stage there, the sound
was really good, but the sound had to be kept really low because
they had complaints from people who lived nearby! So it was really
good but really quiet!
J – What would you say your influences are?
P – Well.. we have many influences..
yeah, Dead can Dance especially..
They may not be electronic, but sure.. Dead Can Dance! Nine Inch
Nails, BT [BT are a trance band late 90’s], errr..
SV – I like regular rock bands. Also Vomito
Negro, I like them.
S – Actually, I’ve been listening to
old goth stuff recently..
J – Now THAT surprises me..
S – Yeh, me too!! I thought
I was through with all the goth stuff! But I’ve been going
through my old goth records. My latest inspiration is a band called
Interpol. They are a band from New York, and they are a
noisey guitar band kinda like Joy Division, they’re
fookin’ excellent!
P – And if we are talking
also about what we listen to now I really like Icon of Coil…
SV – Yeah, also Depeche Mode.
P – There are also some interesting up and
coming bands on Metropolis they are called Mindless Faith.
[note Mindless Faith feature on the new Septic
IV compilation from Dependent, they are a band to watch from the
States for sure]
J – Right. Next question..A word
game – Futurepop, Industrial, EBM, Black Metal or Goth?
P – Electro – Goth.
J – There’s always one isn’t
there! [the band cracks up..] That’s cheating!
S – Metal.
J – Fuck off! Now you’re just taking
the piss! [we are now all falling about with laughter..] What’s
yours?
SV – Hip Hop! [this is too much for us all..
we have to stop the tape, as we end up almost crying laughing!]
No I mean Industrial definitely!
J – At last A real answer!! Industrial..
Good lad! Next question..
Nephesh was a great critical success, and it really launched you
into the scene so with so much pressure and attention focussed on
you. A lot of people waiting for you to probably fuck up actually
to be honest.. How do you deal with the pressure, how does it effect
your writing for the new album?
S – The best thing is just not to think about it..
We will just do the same thing that we have always done. You just
block it out. I mean in 1 out of 3 reviews we have been slaughtered
as well. So we have learnt that sometimes you have to just let these
people vent, you know? I don’t think these people really listened
to the music with an open mind. There will always be critics for
our music and we accept that, but we don’t let it affect us..
If we did we wouldn’t be here today! (continues
