LIGHTHOUSE OF PICTURES
Year 2003 has brought forward many new projects,
but only several could be noted for leaving significant mark in the
scene. Rotersand is one of those few. Quite an impact has been made
with their first full-length "Truth Is Fanatic", and that was expected
since Rasc, Gun and Krischan are very well known within
their respective music scenes. Album received many over-flattering
titles like "newcomer of the year", "album of the month" and similar
journalistic
confectionery that don't mean much else (and shouldn't) but to point
to a notable release. Enough at least for an interview. I was mostly
intrigued
by lyrics, to be honest. Majority of my questions is about that side
of Rotersand. The rest is music, and there you're on your
own.
Now that world
has opened for Rotersand, what
would you like to take from it?
Rasc: We really e njoy traveling and touring around
and meeting with and talking to people we would never have met without
Rotersand - that is the main big thing
for us in the moment. The feedback of the people now involved as djs, fans
or wherever they came from sharing our reflection of electronics.
What is cohesional
force of Rotersand since you three are musically very different?
Rasc: The lov e for advanced electronic music and selected words.
Do you 'glue' your
tracks out of elements created by each of you, or you make songs
together as a whole?
Rasc: There is always a first inspiration and than we work it out.
The three of us together or sometimes just two in altering combinations.
Frequent in your lyrics are motifs of contact, touch and
embrace. Also, picture of dreams plays a significant role. How does
that reflect an idea of Rotersand? What those lyrics represent?
R: Maybe a certain and shared ne ed for balance. As we work on our lyrics
we most of the time get into the same mood and just follow the flow of our
feelings and impressions. Most of the time we are on the move like this.
And the product are descriptive, picturesque lyrics.
Please describe your connection to visual arts: painting, film?
R: Yes, most of our lyrics live in inner pictures. Sometimes
we are inspired by certain pictures or scenes. The bandname comes
from
an old black and white
documentary about the lighthouse Roter Sand. ‘Merging Oceans’ from
the story of an old sailor... (continues on next
