What would be a picture of Rotersand? Your
logo, 'truth is fanatic' slogan, grey ocean?
R: For me the sea in changing colours
from grey to deep blue into green and under different conditions like storm,
clear
blue sky etc.
I find that "Truth is Fanatic" has a large
quantity of raw energy subdued, just occasionally released ('Sonic
Agony', ' Almost Violent'). Why it is not out in the open, why
is it boiling
under the surface?
R: It is more interesting not to always do the obvious and expected
and have certain well prepared climaxes spreaded over a record. We
like to play with dynamic.
Pink Floyd is the world´s best example
for playing with dynamics. A lot of classical pieces as well.
to Krischan: being a techno music producer, how does Rotersand influnce
you and vice versa?
Krischan: To be honest: being a techno music producer influence rotersand
much more than it changes my style of electronic music production. The main
difference
is that I work with Rotersand on songs, structured mostly with verse and refrain…I
try to transfer some of the roughness in techno music to rotersand (maybe this
is what you mean with “raw energy” in the question above) , like
working with vinyl sampled sounds and more percussion elements than it is usual
in ebm/darkelectro. The melancholic touch is also part of detroit techno, like
Kenny Larkin, Robert Hood…so there is no substantial change for me. A
lot of the future pop tracks which I hear in the clubs tries to imitate trance/techno
productions in some ways, mostly without respecting their roots and main techniques.
And mostly the producers don`t know techno-acts, or never listen to other styles
outside the field of “dark”. For example, if you take an act like
Panacea, which I knew from my work at Force Inc.; he told me that in Germany
he is mainly known as an drum&bass producer, in the USA he is heard by
dark people and toured in dark clubs. I asked some people in the scene about
him, after I`ve got part of Rotersand, and nobody knew him, although his stuff
is evil, brutal and fully compatible. And it seems that a lot of possible influences
aren`t used properly. I feel, that Rotersand in some parts is filling this
gap by integrating elements of both worlds. We hope in a homogenous way.
Let’s go back to the album… "All for all"?
Feel free for your own interpretation.
Will technology destroy or promote the truth?
Gun: Technology
won’t,
people will.
I didn't
have more questions at that point so I returned to listening of "Truth
Is Fanatic". I do have
my own interpretation of their music, and this short interview has
confirmed some of my thoughts, one being that their
creations come effortlessly by merging
various influences. Should've asked more questions...
