:SITD: -
Laughing Stock CDS
:SITD: are among the new
breed of dark EBM, sitting amongst other new young upstarts like Grendel and Interlace,
they are the future of EBM/Industrial and in these threes’ capable
hands, the future looks good!
:SITD: stormed onto the scene thanks to the superscout of new EBM talent, Dependent boss, Stefan
Herwig. He featured a then unknown :SITD: on the legendary SEPTIC series
of compilations (SEPTIC 2 September 2001), the track? 'SNUFF MACHINERY (club
version)'.. It was to become an overnight success, move over the old school,
the new boys had arrived!
After the disappointing official first release ("Snuff Machinery EP")
and a wave of great remixes (notably the dancefloor smash, ‘Wake up’ formally
by Pzycho Bitch) :SITD: come at us again with their new CD single, ‘Laughing
Stock’.
So was it to be another disappointment? Or a renewing of their vow to take
the EBM/Industrial scene by storm?
I am glad to announce that it is the latter. A cementing of :SITD: as being
amongst the forerunners for the crown of best newcomer to the Industrial scene.
Let's start with Track 1: Single Version:
The characteristic German sample, and pounding beats this is :SITD: in their
element. Listening to the lyrics, (you can actually hear them in this version)
it seems that 'Laughing Stock' is about the Columbine massacre, something close
to Americans’ heart and a difficult subject at the best of times. However
we are given some kind of hope of a brighter tomorrow on the trademark slower,
uplifting strings bridge section. This is great music, it really has everything
a great industrial track should have… German samples, harsh vocals, a
driving beat and weird up siren sounds. This is EBM/Industrial at its
best!
Remixes? The best is by The Retrosic!
Oh wow… oh wow, oh wow, oh wow! What a f**king brilliant mix! This is
pure f****g industrial, no compromise! The Retrosic have made 'Laughing
Stock' a true dancefloor smash. I predict this track to be club track of this
year, I kid you not, this mix takes everything raw in the opening track and
makes it perfect. Remember you heard it here first!
F***d up frequency melodies and beats that pummel your brain into submission.
Shut- up-and-dance music. Listen to the future now. It doesn’t get any
better than this…
Track 3: '@QXT Mix' by Das Ich
If it weren’t for the great mixes before it this would be a great remix.
But amongst such auspicious company it just doesn’t quite cut the mustard!
Track 4: Lights Of Euphoria remix - no comment.
Sadly.
Track 5: 'No Compromise Remix' by Blutengel
Excellent vocal sampling in this remix, highlighting something that could have
perhaps been picked up in the original? Fair play to Blutengel, they
know how work a good sample!
Track 6: Extended Version
More atmosphere, more darkness, listen to it in the comfort of your home, it
builds layer by layer to equal its edited single version sibling.
The problem with a CD single like this is that their can only be one winner.
There is no prize for second place. There is only one track that you will hear
on every dancefloor and that quite simply is 'The Retrosic remix'. And trust
me, you’ll be listening to this track as long as you have been listening
to 'Snuff Machinery'… (see you in 2005 then!)
:SITD: have one single fault. It’s a small but potentially damaging one,
they need to pick up their tempo. It’s ok for us DJ’s we have the
equipment to speed it up a little, but for the buying public that just isn’t
good enough. So, :SITD: if you’re listening out there… give us
some more BPM! And we, your advocates, will salute you!
All hail :SITD:! The next generation!
