BLANK - Overhead CDS

It is certain that DJs will have big use of this release: electro-dance track, trance remix, tranceoid rework and a hardcore guitar(!) take. Names? Implant, Moonitor (Sebastian Komor of Icon Of Coil) and legendary Tim Schuldt. Original song is provided by Blank, newcomer from Italy that has recently been added to distinguished Artoffact Records roster.

Music?
Hm… Judging by two pieces included, I’ll try with “like Neuroticfish, but more original, with italian energy and more electro/techno juice” or ” like Implant, but a bit inexperienced, with excellent prospect to develop” . You get the picture, right? :)
‘ Overhead [extended dance mix]’ incorporates nice idea and good execution; ‘Event Horizon’ has more personal note and textbook (read: IOC) structure.
It is all there – nice melody and it’s development, strong beats, prominent bassline, catchy lyrics, good production – all the ingredients of successful new electro act. A tide of many has been flooding the ears of industrial devotees for the last couple of seasons and whether Blank will rise above the alike, I cannot say based on just two songs. To be honest, sample provided on this single did not introduce completely original, innovative, revolutionary sound. I am afraid that we’ll wait and wait for this fashion of future pop to pass, not to take anything from Blank, but there are so many bands now… is that going to bring a rise in quality or absolute boredom in clubs? I am eagerly awaiting their album to prove myself that this project has an identity and energy to be overhead of many other acts.

Remixes?
Implant is growing to be a powername and their remixing abilities are proven to be better with each new song. Diversity of bands they have redone in excellent way is remarkable: Suicide Commando, Interlace, Plastic Noise Experience, Razed In Black, Psyche and many more shows that casting music from their mold (regardless of initial sound) will result in artful sculpture. ‘Overhead’ is no exception – added maturity and flow, nothing more but enough for a hit. Praises.
Sebastian Komor’s resume is as accomplishing. I mean, Icon Of Coil, Bruderschaft, Moonitor… what else to be said? Remix is at par with good songs from those bands – nothing else to be said.
On the other hand, Tim Schuldt completely dismantled ‘Overhead’ and with adding guitars had created a mutant of strange nature. Might be that vocals needed a boost to match the song, but everything else is in place: change of pace, atmospheric pauses and clock-ticking and brutal guitar slashes to follow chorus. Interesting, interesting, interesting. Too much, though – it is a complete turn from previous three songs; should be listened separately if possible.

Overall?
The clear purpose of this single is to get the name and music of Blank launched and Artoffact succeded in such effort – not only that title track ‘Overhead’ is very good and ‘Event Horizon’ gives even more, but superb choice of remixers (Artoffact trademark) guarantees decent club-time. Knowing the sales of releases and sad P2P technique used by many, I know that recommendation that you should get this single will fall on deaf ears; at least keep in mind that Blank is out there, they’re preparing new album – keep your eyes open, it might be very good. Electromeda will continue close scrutiny of their work, they have earned at least that much credit with “Overhead”.
