EPSILON MINUS – Mark
II
If this was the first Epsilon Minus'
album than I would have labeled it ‘identity/sound searching’,
but since they have more than a couple of releases, “Mark
II” is simply ‘unfocused’.
It would have been amazing if Bogart Shwadchuck had created a collection
of superb tracks of various genres, but most of this 70 minutes long disc is
uninspired/ing group of songs. What is even worse, some potential gems, like ‘Just
another Long Shot’ that brutally lacks innovation and wonderful melody
of ‘Rain’ that is savagely under-produced, drag this release down
to the bottom. Just a nice complement to soft and sweet voice of Ms. Jennifer
Parkin would have done the job… why all the (unsuccessful) experimenting
with breakbeat, electro-wave, techno? No attempts left now, since she left
the band… which is probably good for all… Commercial tip to Alfa
Matrix: simply send ‘Rain’ to 10 bands for remixing and
you could compile an excellent single-release…
Yes, Glis’ remix is good and hidden track is interesting, but
that is pretty much all. If you exclude unexplainable relation between Compton,
USA and Toronto, CDN. Certain bands successfully blend rap and electro sound,
but they don’t include ghetto attitude and slang. I don’t think
that people in the scene targeted by Epsilon Minus understand
or relate to this type of humour. It is quite possible that this album will
not be accepted that well also.
