INFEKKTION – Toxical Colours LTD 2CD

For a long while now, Infekktion have been the poor cousins of bands like Suicide Commando and Wumpscut. Amongst the snobbery of the scene, they have been peered down at, scorned as plagiarists, named a 'pitiful Suicide Commando copy band', cheap, nasty, disgraced…But three albums down the line, and Infekktion have come out of the darkness and into the light. "Toxical Colours" is a real breakthrough album, one that can be compared more than favourably with the last poor releases of any of the so-called Harsh EBM leaders. Come with me as we find out just what has made the difference, and why I now think that Infekktion have come of age…
I first came across their music some three years ago, listening the debut "New Virus". They were slow, Suicide Commando imitators (no two ways about it), too slow to DJ but I put them down as a band to watch – given time and a little equipment investment, they could be good.
True to my hunch, their second album, "Virus of Time", was far better. Still a little patchy in places, but a competent album with one stand out DJ track – 'Kick The Ground', which found its way into my DJ sets. Infekktion had developed their sound, more dancefloor than Suicide Commando, but still lacking any real consistent quality. So here we are, end of 2003 and Infekktion release with remixes by Grendel, Skoyz and Schattenshlag… But what about the regular CD? Just how far have Infekktion come? Are they destined to always be just a sad copy band or will they come into their own and shock the whole establishment with an album that tears apart the band they are accused of imitating – Suicide Commando?
Let’s have a look now shall we, at the highlights of Infekktion's "Toxical Colours"…

CD ONE –
01. COLOURS
Welcome to Infekktion.. something new, yet old, borrowed and blue.. Yes it does sound remarkably similar to the squelch siren of 'Snuff Machinery' by :SITD: but that’s no bad thing.. Yes, the beats are as black and as big as Suicide Commando at their finest.. But what is this? A real sense of composition, great production. A complete sound. A total sound. Big crunching beats and simple drifting synth lines. All we need is a nice fat distorted vocal line, enter Oliver Senger.. and that’s that.
Good solid track, lighter than previous Infekktion, but definitely of a higher quality than previous releases, listen on…

02. TRY TO BELIEVE
A great pulsating bass line rips through your chest and you're into the song.. Borrowed ‘Better Off Dead’ drums complete the apocalyptic intro, but where does it go? We’re lost in a harsh EBM- Delerium fusion that just doesn’t quite work, which is a real shame because the pulsating bass line section rocks!

04. ENGEL IN SCHWARZ
Now we’re kicking.. Total dancefloor riot, as the Infekktion boys give us a slice of pure industrial heaven. A wonderful mix of future-pop synth lines, thundering bass lines and hard edged beats that combine to produce, quite simply a near perfect EBM/Industrial listening experience!
This is high quality DJ friendly fodder, this puts Mr Van Roy (S.Commando) in the shade, this is the new and improved Infekktion and it rocks!
I’m currently torn between playing the great original version and the equally good remix… hmmm, decisions, decisions.. Oh, and, ‘Engel in Schwarz?’ - Angel in black… Aahh.. isn’t that nice?...

08. CENSORED INNOCENCE
If you’re in doubt what the best tracks are on the album, just have a look on the bonus CD to see what tracks the bands have remixed.. it’s normally a good clue, and 'Censored Innocence' is no exception..
A real get up a go track. Big, bold, bloody rhythms.. (continues on next page)
