PZYCHOBITCH – The Day Before EP
Synonymous with Pzychobitch is definitely
the name of Sina Hübner. Her undeniable presence
and charisma, combined with energetic singing style does great
service to interest in the band. ‘Wake Up - [S.I.T.D.] rmx’ did
the rest. Has “The Day Before” brought further advancement
in quality? No. It stops well short from the level of their image
and popularity. With only one song that matches the energy and
strength of Sina’s attitude, and a couple with inventive
electronics, this EP certainly cannot be labeled as disappointment,
but more has been expected.
Non-remixed songs vary from
absolutely uninspiring ‘Life
could…’ to totally smashing hit ‘Breakdown’.
Duality in quality continues with two versions of ‘My day’:
original is pointless, while “Day Before version” is
an amazing, fresh electronic track. Hm… speaking of pure Pzychobitch music:
must be admitted that not many bands create blend of electro+ styles
that is this good – bleeps, 303/808 combo,distorted/echoed
chords under Sina’s authoritative voice truly work.
Abovementioned song is the best example. Why it is not used more
(or always) is beyond me. Combined with active beats, no mistake – hit
after hit.
Such approach is even further from the ideas of remixers. I have no clue what
did Hecq try to accomplish with ‘Killing Smile Hecq reemiqs’.
Two ‘Caress’ treatments, have at least a point. One, done by Arkus
P, is a bass/beat straight line that is five minutes long. With repeating
sample of Sina’s voice, it should put you on the dance floor. Well, it
works for a while… Other (Rotersand were in charge of it) is
rock approach reminiscent of.. Blondie. It also works for a while.
Electronic parts is good, singing in German too. Vamp approach to Pzychobitch?
Might be interesting…
What else.. yes, Die Farben & Commando Blowjob ‘1742’ mix
of ‘Insane’. Here’s a good one! ‘In your face’ singing
and bass - perfect! Many layers of electronics enhance it, too much samples
ruin it. Breakbeat parts are well placed and overall felling of this song is
very positive. At least one remix is good…
Yes, you’ll hear ‘Breakdown’ in
clubs often and it belongs there. Couple of other tracks are
for home enjoyment. The rest will be forgotten. We need more:
more good electro-work, more energetic songs, and of course,
more Sina.
