Work of what artist really moves you? I find something 'Daliesque' in your work ( possibly wrong). Do you agree if I name your art tech-surrealism? <smile>

As a child I was moved by the work of Raffaelo Sanzio and Michelangelo, as I got older Da Vinci and his connection between art and science intrigued me. Later and most significantly Salvador Dali, his ability to view outside of the bubble bringing the viewer into his unrealistic worlds that are believable and real, challenging our perceptions and opening the mind to alternative realties. My mind became unchained in the moment I visited the Dali Museum in St.Petersburg 6 years ago. And for Dali comparison, I thoroughly enjoy that description! (Thank You).

Another of your inspirations gave birth to Mayan Art Series. Why do you find their culture so interesting?

There are similarities to Russian cultural heritage. I noticed a linguistic connection between some old Slavic words used by my Russian Great Grand Parents and Mayan words. There are also ruins in my born city of Ekaterinburg, which are very similar to the Mayan pyramids. I am intrigued by the fact that Mayan parents would pierce their children with Amber between the eyes, Mayan hieroglyphics have recently revealed stereographic 3D images embedded in the stone, stereographic images can be seen with ease by slightly crossing the eyes. Mayans believed the world was created by light, there is much mystery surrounding their disappearance only the pyramids and slave ancestry remain. Their system of counting was based on 2 numbers just as modern computers calculate. Their sun and moon planetary calendars were highly precise, the building are strongly aligned to the objects in space and designed with a strong understanding of modern trigonometry.

Russia and MesoAmerica... how about comparison between Ekaterinburg and NYC, where you currently reside? <smile>

Both places feel like home. Interesting people are abundant in both places and I am always drawn back. Thankfully, NYC has delicious russian food too!
