ARGENTOSOMA (Volumes 1 and 2)
Disaster.
In episode one, it determined all future events of Argentosoma series;
also, overall ‘taste’ after watching first ten parts.
Sadly, animation is amazing, sound superb, and direction
excellent. What is the problem? Story. Catastrophe of pathetic
lines and dialogues, stereotypical characters and events. Paradox
is that the main storyline is not boring. It's development is annoying.
Especially crying and screaming of young girl named Hattie who’s
in some sort of telepathic link with Frank/ X-1, an alien/robot
or just alien.
Characters?
There is Frankenstein, The Devil (?), private alien fighting company(??) named Funeral and Ryu
Soma, alter ego of the main character Takuto. You
guessed right – an evil twin. Yes, you guessed right again – Ryu’s
heart will melt into goodness at the end.
Luckily, I had no patience and will to pursue volume three, even though episode
ten showed some prospect (finally!). Inventively solved battle with super-alien
is pretty much the only merit-worthy sequence in all of serial. Not enough
for the house of Sunrise.
Another confusing thing: Frank/ X-1, aircrafts and other mechanization are
masterfully designed by Mr. Kimitoshi Yamane (remember the name! He’s
very good!) but ‘standard’ aliens are so primitively done, it’s
funny. Ed Wood style mantises with laser-eyes...
It’s pointless to name
all the faults and problems of the storyline. I really expected
more than unrefined characters
and undeveloped stereotypes of love, hate, envy, rivalry and revenge.
Sad.
Don’t buy it – waste of time
and nerves.
